Hello, my name is Mikel. I am a Mexican/Spanish filmmaker, more specifically a 22-year-old writer-director, currently living in Madrid. I have written and directed a few short films of my own, and I am currently studying a screenwriting master. The reason I decided to start this newsletter is simple. I figured that if I already dedicated my days to study and learn more about the art of filmmaking, I might as well share it with people. This will hopefully create a community of filmmakers around the world and help demystify the film industry because I know it sometimes feels like a dream that is out of reach.

That is exactly why I wanted to document my own journey. I am a 22-year-old with only a few short films under my belt, never been to a film festival, and I am in the process of writing my first-ever feature-length screenplay. By all metrics, I am nothing special, and that is exactly why I am here – to show you the reality of what it is like to pursue a career in filmmaking from ground zero. I hope I can provide you with some value along the way and help you connect with fellow filmmakers.
